    Re: Mumbai Tete-a-tete

Looks like the plan is now postponed to 16th August.
I want to do a TD of Creta and S Cross. My wife wants to do the TD. So lets see how it goes.

So its been a while this thread was updated and we haven't documented our local meets in a while. Neelay did not just TD the Creta but he now drives one! Here's the only pic (selfie) of the three wise men that went out to TD the Tata Hexa and the Tata Tigor and then satiated their thirst / hunger at 'Hoppipola', a nice pub at the Infiniti Mall 2 in Malad:

A short report on the Tigor - It looks even better in the flesh, especially in the copper shade that is surely catching on with every car manufacturer and we're going to see that colour a lot on the roads in times to come. The shut lines were tight, build quality felt good in most areas and it generally feels like a much more expensive car than it actually is. The story continues inside as well. The dashboard is abound with piano black inserts and the design is pleasing to the eye. The touch screen info system isn't great and I'd rather use the knobs. Thankfully, its not a full touch based system. Space is good for 4 and the 5th will be a squeeze. Glove box is cooled but on the smaller side. Seats are on the softer side so they will probably make for tiring long journeys. The steering wheel looks good but isn't clad in leather, which I guess is the norm nowadays for cars costing this side of million bucks. Oh, the 8 speaker JBL system is the one of the best around and the clarity and bass will blow you.

On the move, the 3 cylinder petrol engine makes you notice that there is a cylinder missing as it is lacking in outright refinement. Its okay at idle, but once on the move, it has the same VW 3 cylinder petrol unit's thrum and engine note. We were more interested in the 3 cylinder 70PS 1.05 D engine and while it was noisy at all revs, the car did move swiftly and the engine has a very linear power delivery. 140NM of torque helps and so does the well matched gear ratios. 1st and 2nd gear is tall enough and Hrushi thought it was a welcome change from his Punto's where he would have to shift gears more frequently in stop and go traffic. Again, the 3 cylinder diesel unit makes the wing mirrors vibrate, so that is a downer. The EPS steering was quite artificial though and felt like a Hyundai's. Surprising that they went for an over assisted unit, probably to make it easier in traffic. Its alright at low speeds but doesn't weigh up too well at high speeds. Suspension is pretty sorted and while it is on the softer side, its not disconcerting at high speeds.

To conclude, I'd say the Ford Aspire betters this car in the engine, transmission and dynamics department with potent 4 cylinder 105 PS diesel and 115 PS petrol units as well as the option of a dual clutch 6 speed automatic. However, the Tigor looks like a million bucks, feels like it too for the most part and trumps the Aspire with its pricing - Its about a lakh or so cheaper (top end variants). Overall, its not a perfect package and I wishes Tata gave it proper 4 cylinder motors and an auto option..maybe in due course.

    On the Hexa tomorrow..

The Czech/German - 2012 Candy White Skoda Rapid 1.6 MPI Automatic

A short and sweet review mate. I guess this is the only way I will be up to speed on what's happening in the Indian auto scene!

The Tigor was impressive. I felt it is a good option for people looking to upgrade from a hatchback.
    Fit and finish was good.
Lots of room inside. seats on a softer side and good leg room.
    Music system was great.
Light steering wheel was a plus point as the general public wants a light steering (while Fiatians will frown on the same)
The boot was a bit weird as it was tubular/cylindrical hence the luggage has to be put in horizontally.
The engine even though noisy on the outside was peppy and pulled well.
Overall i felt that it is a good package - Romil disagrees only because of the 3 cylinder.
However, not sure if we should compare this with the Aspire. The Hyundai Xcent is 3 cylinder but more expensive.
So the pricing is very aggressive.

One of my office colleague who had finalised Ford Aspire 1.2 Petrol now booked the Tigor 1.2 Petrol top end. I think it cost him under around 7.5L with all the bells & whistles. Thats a fantastic package. The looks, design and interior quality comfort is just awesome and value for money you pay for.

BTW why do you say it isn't comparable to Ford Aspire? Major difference one is a 3-cylinder and the later is 4-cylinder. Also I see interior quality also quite a big difference between the two.

Heard the Tigor Diesel engine is much better buy, is that true?

    Re: Mumbai Tete-a-tete

An impromptu breakfast meet got decided through call and messages last sunday - July 16 2017. Plan was to savour some authentic food so initially we thought to try at the Idli house in Matunga where they serve different varieties of idlis and other south indian stuff and have some nice filter coffee but then our Salman Khan aka Roms desired for Misal Pav. A quick search led us to Prakash Upahar Kendra & Aswad both located at Dadar. Since Prakash is also famous for its delicious sabudana vada, batata vada, kokam juice and many more we finalised this in the end. The attendees were - myself, Roms, Hrushikesh, Rohan & Rajesh Rao.

Reached by 10.30am at Prakash hotel while Roms and others went to pick up Rajesh from his bed Will let the pictures do the talking.

Still outshines everything else as it stands out proud and yellow

Look what we found exploring the Compass

A gecko/lizard is part of the plastic mould at the base of the front windshield. This could be Jeep trying to draw comparisons between the lizard/gecko and the Compass - both are known for their all-terrain abilities.

Done with exploring the Compass, Roms was itching to have its hands on the new Octavia so we headed off to the Skoda showroom just nearby. Test drove the Octavia 1.8 TSI top end. The power delivery is amazing, instant on the pedal tap. The driving dynamics was fabulous too as i had to zip, brake, squeeze in and out on the Mumbai traffic. The car was composed throughout the speeds. The DSG box is fantastic to work with in the Skoda/VW. Its pricey but has lots of bells & whistles
