    Rock Of Ages - Movie

    Rock of Ages,

When heard first, I thought they were talking about Deff Leppard anthology but the advertises over a period made me realize it’s a new movie starring Tom Cruise and Catherine Zeta Jones is about to be released on this 16th June. More than the story line the 80’s rock is the point of attraction. If you love 80’s rock /hard rock you will love it. A plethora of 80’s rock numbers will definitely entertain you otherwise the movie is like a bollywood movie with songs, dance, comedy, lovedy etc. barring car chase and stunts.

The movie starts with “take me down to the paradise city where the grass is green and the girls are pretty by GNR followed by “Nothin but a good time” Poison. If I put it right since many Poison, Foreigner songs were there in the movie, it would be like this

    1) Guns n’ roses: Paradise city
    2) Posion : Nothin but a good time, Every rose has it’s thorn
    3) Bon Jovi: Dead or alive
    4) Foriegner : Juke box hero, Waiting for a girl like you, I want to know what love is
    5) Twisted Sister: We are not gonna take it, I wanna Rock( this was one of my favourites during college times )
    6) Forgotten Band ( I mean it since I heard this song): I Love Rock n Roll
    7) Deff Leppard: Pour Some Sugar on me
    8) Journey: Any way you want it, Don’t stop believin
    9) White Snake: Here I go Again
    10) Reo Speedwagon: Can’t fight this feeling
    11) Startship: We built this city on rock n’ roll

And the movie ends with Quiet Riot song “Cum on feel the noise”

Also some "No one like you"( Scorpion) "Bringing on the heart break" (Deff Leppard) and other had its rounds in between. Also a few more songs that I heard un heard in the long past was also there but don’t remember them as of now. Some of the songs reminded me of some boyz II men and Mariah carrey types. Since am a true hard rock and metal fan don’t know much about them. I think I heard Rock you like a hurricane (Scorpions) as well somewhere in between.

Tom Cruise’s appearance and costumes looked as of Axl Rose of GNR and so was his performance too like a hard rock star. There is nothing great in this movie other than the rock numbers of 80s. All the songs are fitted tightly to the story line and hence there is no cut off between story line and songs .

Feel like revisited the 80’s memories and back…

    Regards

    Manoj

Wow, really nice MK. I see that we have a fellow head banger on board.

Some of the names that you mentioned there really took me back to my college days as well - Twisted Sister, Def Leppard, Bon Jovi & of course Scorpions. Missing from the list are Judas Priest, Pearl Jam & Aerosmith.

Looking forward to the movie now.

    Yeah Sid \m/

There are many such bands that are not there. After the movie I was asking myself that why U2 was not there I felt some of their songs could have been a nice suit to the story line. JP, Pearl Jam, Van Halen at least Billy (ZZ top) could have been there. End of the day if they include all those 80s favourites then its all gonna be music and no storyline .

Btw: Did you know Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top is a vintage car and guitar collector. Look at his car collections in youtube.

Ridley Scott, director of Alien and Blade Runner, returns to the genre he helped define. With Prometheus, he creates a groundbreaking mythology, in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race. -- (C) Official Site

I saw this movie yesterday. And heres my view on it.

Prometheus tells a much bigger story and does it well, but it's missing what matters most. The film has a kind of "been there, done that" feeling too. The film isn't perfect, but Prometheus is a fascinating new mystery within his original "Alien" universe.

    I rate this movie: 3/5

Damn! I am yet to watch both of them. Interesting that you rate Skyfall as one of the best ever as the opinions have been pretty much divided on this movie.

Would be great if you can write a review for us

    cheers,

Too bad we don't have IMAX in Pune. Gotta watch it this weekend at PVR.
Missed watching 'Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro' when it was released at PVR cinemas nationwide. I think it is off theatres now

I should take my 1-1/2 year old to Skyfall then. Every morning he is shaken(by us) but doesn't stir ( from his sleep).
