How to receive e-mail about new Posts, Threads, etc.

One very good reason many members still prefer the good old Yahoo PUG Group over the vbulletin MFW forum is that they could get a notification mail the very moment someone posts on the group, making it easier for one to stay updated with the happenings on the group. Not many know that one could get notification mails on this vbulletin forum, the way we used to get before. The key here is to 'Subscribe to a thread or a particular forum'

    What are subscriptions?

The subscriptions feature tells the forum that we are interested in receiving updates on the subject, threads/forums. There are four subscription types :

    a) Instant notification by email : You get an e-mail the very moment someone posts on a thread

    b) Through my control panel only : No e-mail notifications. The list of the threads/forums subscribed this way can be viewed at Subscribed Threads

    c) Daily updates by email : You get an e-mail comprising all the posts made on a day

    d) Weekly updates by email : You get an e-mail comprising all the posts made in a week

How to subscribe to a thread?

    1) Open the thread you wish to subscribe to

    Name: 1.jpg
Views: 50
Size: 38.5 KB

    2) Click Thread Tools

    Name: 2.jpg
Views: 58
Size: 37.6 KB

    3) A drop-down menu appears. Click Subscribe to this thread

    Name: 3.jpg
Views: 54
Size: 39.8 KB

    4) Select the Notification Type, Folder & Click Add Subscription (discussed above)

    Name: 4.jpg
Views: 51
Size: 36.2 KB

    5) You're done!

How to unsubscribe from a thread?

    1) Open the thread you wish to subscribe to

    Name: 1.jpg
Views: 50
Size: 38.5 KB

    2) Click Thread Tools

    Name: 2.jpg
Views: 58
Size: 37.6 KB

    3) A drop down menu appears. Click Unsubscribe from this thread

    Name: 5.jpg
Views: 53
Size: 39.9 KB

    4) You're done!

    Quick Notes

    1) One can even subcribe to a particular forum or sub-forum (for instance, you can subscribe to "Engine" which is a forum or only "Electrical" which is a sub-forum under engine) following the steps given above. The only differences are : i) Instead of Thread Tools we've Forum Tools, and ii) There is no Instant notification by email subscription type.

    2) One can see the list of threads/forums subscribed to by clicking Quick Links and selecting Subscriptions from the drop down menu. (Else you may bookmark the direct link : Subscribed Threads)

    Name: 6.jpg
Views: 51
Size: 40.4 KB

    Name: 7.jpg
Views: 57
Size: 40.2 KB

    3) One can even create multiple folder to organize the subscriptions more effectively by clicking Edit Folders link and following the steps.

If you've any queries, do ask! :D
