    Weekend getaway from Mumbai!

    Hi All-

I am looking at doing a day trip from Mumbai over a weekend in the coming month. While there are may options to explore given that the monsoon is here and most parts wearing a green cover, I would like to hear from MFWers from Mumbai and Pune to share your most preferred destination and why. Would help if you could post some pics of the places so that we folks can get a good perspective.

Do contribute to this thread so that this can be a ready reference for anyone who is looking for a destination to cool their heels in.

    cheers,
If everything is in control, you aren't going fast enough.

    Ram,

this would be a interested thread ahead... :D

my preferred destination nearby to Navi Mumbai/Mumbai has always been Konkan.

The last trip I had made was to Diveagar-Shrivardhan which is around 170 kms from Navi Mumbai. Its a quiet and beautiful place to hang out which are close to beaches. People who are fish lovers would love this place as you get fantastic mouthwatering fish fries and curries. I had been for a 3 day trip where I stayed one day at Diveagar and other days at Shrivardhan.

    Some pics of the place...

Note: the place is not a posh, jazzy place. There are home stays as well as small decent resorts available.

Hmm, monsoons, rain, mist, lush green all around.

The obvious suspects would be Matheran, Panchgani & Mahabhaleshwar besides the pedestrian Lonavala and Khandala.

If you are up to it - explore each of the trans-Sahyadri ghat roads. Look for accomodation on the windward (Konkan) side. Each of them is different and has much to offer - flowers, waterfalls, misty hill sides, etc.

The Sahyadri ghat roads are the Varanda (new), Kumbarli, Bhor (Khandala), Tamhane, Varandha, Ambenali, Kumbarli, Ponda, Amboli, Malshej, Kasara & Amba being the major ones. The minor ones being Karul, Anuskura & Buibavda.

    Cheers,

    Thanks ton Subodh and Ravvee.

I really like Ravvee's idea of exploring every ghat road in the Sahyadris. I will try and drive through one ghat road every weekend as long as the monsoons last. I guess I will start with the nearest ghat road first, i.e. the Varanda ghat, wherever that would take me. I shall post pictures and mini travelogues of my trips as soon as I get back.

    Watch this space...

Isn't the Tamhini ghat closer? Malshej too.
