    Starting problems

    Hi every one!
My fiat palio 1.2l takes long to start. When I turn the ignition the starter motor starts to spin and its audible. Its spins for a long time and the tone of of it starts to go deeper and slower until it engages the fly wheel and the engine turns on. I was adviced that I should not hold the ignition for long after turning it to start the car, I was told that after turning the ignition I should turn it back to off if the starter motor doesn't engage the fly wheel immediately. Please advice. I was also told it is a common problem amongst fiat palios.

    Re: Starting problems

It could be the starter motor which is the culprit...

Did you get it checked with a mechanic?

Yes, holding the ignition for long is not a good idea.. if it doesn't start..
    Cheers,

Yup check the starter motor as DKM suggested, also checking the battery voltage output might help too.

    Re: Starting problems

Yesterday I removed my rear seat to access the petrol tank, as I was told by one guy who owns a Fiat Uno, to solve the smelling of petrol during driving. I found out that it wasn't tightened and that was the reason why at times the will be a smell of petrol when the car is moving. I closed it properly and wiped it clean. My ignition problem disappear, alongside the smelling of petrol. The car started to move smoothly during my driving, it was amazing.
