Cool Temple Runs across India and globally

    Guys,

This thread I am proposing as a historianís Guide to lesser known Temples/Churches/Mosques/Dargah etc that we come across either on our planned or on unplanned trips. Member's can post their "temple runs" right here so that helps for all of us who loves to dwell in our culture and history behind it, also adds up for our visitors a consolidated gallery of historic monuments and its history

    Thanks & Cheers

Re: Temple Runs across India and globally

    Let me start with myself...

During our recent MFW Ooty meet 2017(http://www.myfiatworld.com/showthread.php?t=1889), on our return journey we made a last pit stop at Somanathapura town in Mysore district, Karnataka. The place was Keshava Temple. The Keshava temple at Somanathapura is another magnificent Hoysala monument build by the Hoysala Army.

It is one of the finest examples of Hoysala architecture known for its intricate and complicated engravings. The temple was built by Soma, a Dandanayaka commander in 1268 CE under Hoysala king Narasimha III, when the Hoysala Empire was the major power in South India.

The Keshava temple is one of the finest and most complicated and true examples of Hoysala architecture and is in a very well preserved condition. The temple is in the care of the Archaeological Survey of India as a guarded heritage site. Thanks to them it is maintained well. We had a nice Guide who explained the history behind each sculptures & structures around it.

Tips: Anyone visiting this place, please take the Guide else its a waste going there.

Few pics that I could take. I couldn't capture more as the Guide kept all of us engrossed in his history sessions till the end
