Lightbulb Hello for a Palio 1.2 Driver

Hello Fiat Lover - am Rocky from Bangalore

I drive a Palio 1.2 2001 model. Nope I don't own it. It belongs to my FIL but he does not drive it at all. Usually its parked for 11 months a year and whenever I visit my "native" I service it, wash it, clean it, drive it and pack it back(not to forget - refill nitrogen in wheel - yes - they last a year). Have gone on nice long drives from Guwahati to Bhutan and more recently from Guwahati to Bangalore. Yes - got the Italian beauty here so that its wheel & odo keep rotating. Paid the KA "lifetime" tax and now ready to Rock N Roll.

During my Guwahati to Bangalore trip in Feb '15 didn't face a single problem but few days back the headlight switch (the once we rotate from OFF > parking > headlight) came off along with spring inside. Maybe it the weather. It looks like a ballpen mechanism inside. Sadly I have to change the whole assembly - headlight and wiper switch / stalk - its single piece.

After I came to Blr I serviced it once in KHT Fiat (Whitefield). And am happy with their service. But on checking with them this spare it not available. They are ordering it and its on its way....... been few weeks

    Any ideas?

    Welcome to the forum rocky!

The Palio 1.2 is one rock solid companion and the ride quality is sublime on the versions with steel wheels and smaller 165/80 R13 profile tyres. What variant is your Palio?

Bangalore Fiatians will be happy to add one more member to the group. Do attend the meets that happen now and then. Good luck with your (and your father in law's) beloved Italian and post a few pictures. Thanks

    Welcome to the forum Rocky.

Even my headlight switch with the spring came out a few months ago. Its a pain to replace the whole unit for a minor glitch. I removed the spring and placed the switch back in the slot. Am using it without any issues.

Let us know when you install the new part.

    Hi Neelay

I too used it like that for few days but its risky. It switches off when I use the stalk as indicator function. So finally I changed the whole unit. Its actually plug and play. In fact not a single wire. The unit + labour costed me Rs.4800 in Blr. I know its costly - but peace of mind it its "Made in Italy"
